Poster Presentations
Each semester, our undergraduate research assistants make a poster for their final project. The poster represents the research they worked on during the semester. During an informal presentation session, they must explain the data and their results to Dr. Smith and other participants who view their poster.
Spring Semester 2020
Poster presentations were done a bit differently this semester due to Covid-19 pandemic! Powerpoints were displayed on screen while the lab listened and asked questions of the presenters from the comfort of their own homes. Research assistants presenting and viewers were as close to IU as Bloomington and as far away as South Korea!
Students presenting in the afternoon were Kal Sahoo, Olivia Nystrom, Danielle Maulucci and Abir Ouzzine.
Students presenting in the evening were Gabriela Bevacqua-Collins, Yong-Ha Park, Brittany Alberts and Tasfia Chowdhury.

Congratulations and Farewell
Every semester the Smith Lab has cause to celebrate accomplishments of their lab members! Sometimes those accomplishments are successful summer student internships. Often we celebrate the achievement of our graduate students as they earn their PhD. And we raise our glasses and bid farewell to those who find jobs and move on to become famous!
(September 2021) Elizabeth Clerkin did an outstanding dissertation defense and is our newest PhD. Congratulations Dr. Clerkin! Cheers!
(Summer 2020) Linda and Char had a goodbye picnic with Lei Yuan and Emily Johns in the courtyard behind the lab. Lei has accepted a position as assistant professor in psychology at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Emily moved to Missouri and is pursuing a PhD at the University of Missouri, Columbia.
Lauren Slone (not pictured) accepted an assistant professor position at Hope College in Holland, Michigan.
(Summer 2019) Yu and Smith labs celebrated with frisbee play, cornhole, good food and fond farewells to Drew Abney, Catalina Suarez Rivera and Daniel Pearcy. Drew has accepted a position as assistant professor in psychology at the University of Cincinnati. Cata has obtained her PhD and will be a postdoc in Catherine Tamis- LeMonda's lab at New York University. Daniel is pursuing opportunities to further his goal of becoming a genetic counselor.
(June 2019) Congratulations to Dr.Catalina Suarez Rivera! She has achieved her PhD and is moving on to New York University as a postdoc to continue her research.
(December 2017) Congratulations to Charlene Tay! She has achieved her Masters in Data Science and will soon be moving forward to greatness!
(Summer 2016) There was much to celebrate! Catarina and Paulo graduated with their PhDs and both found postdoc positions at Carnegie Mellon University. Congratulations! Cheers!
(August 2015) Bye-bye and good luck to Ariel La! Ariel has been accepted into the graduate program in communications sciences and disorders department at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

Recruitment Events
We often have a recruitment table at family community events in order to recruit new subjects. We wear our 'Child Scientist' t-shirts and explain to parents how they can help early child development research by participating in studies.
Visit us at the annual Children's Health Expo, the Baby Fair, Celebration of Families and all summer at the Farmer's Market.
